PlayStation Gamer UK Writes: While checking the Web sites stats as I like to do from time to time, I did come across some rather interesting information.

Looking at the section which tells me what terms people used in search engines before coming across PlayStation Gamer UK. There were the normal “PlayStation UK” and “killzone 2 pre-order” terms, the one which stood out the most however was that was a considerable amount of people (so much so it was the second most searched term before visiting this Web site) entering “Will Sony Cancel the PlayStation 3”.

While clearly the people entering these searches are most likely not that familiar with the gaming industry and clearly unaware that the PlayStation 3 has seen solid sales since its release and like all consoles isn’t going to go everywhere.

It does peg the question why did they ask it in the first place. After looking into it there are some reasons why they may ask the question. ... More »

Slated for release tomorrow, PlayStation 3's upcoming 2.50 firmware includes support for Flash 9 via the console's Web browser alongside various changes.

Eurogamer has also been told that you'll be able to see optional EXIF (exchangeable image file format) information while viewing photos.

And finally for the things that weren't mentioned yesterday, the Y and Z and Q and A keys have been remapped for the German on-screen keyboard. Gut.

Things we already knew about Firmware 2.5:

• Pads and the PS3 itself now have tweakable power-save settings for turning off after a period of inactivity.
• You can tell the PS3 to power down once it's finished downloading or installing content.
• In-game screenshots can be taken in compatible games.

With Final Fantasy XIII coming to the Xbox 360, is Sony concerned that it lost a major exclusive? Nope. Speaking in a recent interview, SCEA senior vice president Peter Dille shared his thoughts on the announcement, comparing it to Grand Theft Auto IV.

He believes that since FFXIII is now a cross-platform title, it will not move consoles in the same way that exclusive titles do, like Metal Gear Solid 4 for instance.

To quote: What you have with “Final Fantasy XIII” is a lot like what they’ve paid for with “GTA.” It’s not an exclusive on their platform. It’s now a cross-platform game. And I think if you look at how “GTA” behaved in the marketplace and how it drove — or didn’t drive — either console, that’s what I’m talking about. Consumers responded to “GTA” on the PS3 just as they did on the 360.

He’s probably right. After seeing the effect of GTA IV on both consoles, many are expecting a very similar situ... More »

Tmaster let us know at the link above that silenoz has found a way to run simple Java games on the PS3 with the BD-J (Blu-ray Disc Java) functionality.

To quote silenoz: I've managed to launch a simple Java game on Game OS, with the BD-J functionality, thanks to the HDCookBook project. You just need to copy some files on a USB key and you're good to go.

Steps to launch Blaster Bunny, pictured below, are as follows:

1) Download it HERE and UnZip it.
2) Copy it to the root of a USB/Flash drive.
3) Go to the device in the video menu and launch "AVCHD".
4) Go to BONUS and click GAME to launch Blaster Bunny.

It has also been confirmed that this method has been working on all PS3's regardless of Firmware and region, including 2.41 apparently, and it's likely to work for other Java Vir... More »
