Originally scheduled to ship on October 21, EA has just announced that they're pushing up Dead Space's release date.

The sci-fi horror title will now ship October 14 on the Xbox 360 and PS3, a full week before the original date. (The PC version will still ship on the 21 - sorry PC gamers.)

This marks the second time Dead Space's release has been pushed forward, as the game was first slated to release on Halloween.

One of the most anticipated games of the year, Dead Space takes place aboard an immense mining ship, the USG Ishimura. It has come into contact with alien life in a distance star system, and when communications with earth are suddenly cut off, engineer Isaac Clarke is sent to repair them. Obviously, things don't go as planned and he finds himself thrust into the middle of a living nightmare, fighting to survive.

It's appears the pricy Pioneer BDP-09FD now has some competition from Sony.

Sony surprised the industry at the CEDIA consumer electronics show in Denver by introducing expensive new Blu-ray players instead of cheaper ones. One of the new models is the BDP-S5000ES which will be offered worldwide in December for $2,000.

Andy Parsons, senior VP of product planning at Pioneer Home Entertainment Group and U.S. chairman of the Blu-ray Disc Assn. Promotions Committee, said that "Blu-ray player sales were 50% ahead of total 2007 sales."

Parsons also countered reports that said sales weren’t meeting expectations, and said that any problems in meeting expectations were due to supply shortages.

According to Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward's director of communications, the team has an Xbox Live and PlayStation Network promotion in the pipeline for the weekend of September 13th. Exact details of the promotion haven't yet been revealed, but Bowling stated that double-experience points will be on offer for those itching to raise their in-game rank quickly.

More interesting, however, is the fact that Infinity Ward's developers are pushing hard to complete their new playlist updates in time for the promotion - making it all one-big promotion, says Bowling.

Should the team manage to get it done, and certified by both Microsoft and Sony, we could see some of the following playlists next weekend. Be aware, though, that Bowling has stated that the following list is far from final, and there's currently no telling what we'll receive.

Square Enix announced its proposal last week to acquire a controlling stake in Tecmo. While the bid was set to expire later today, Tecmo formally rejected the offer this morning, as they believe a merge with Koei would be more fitting.

From the released statement, translated by Reuters:

Through a merger, we expect we can grow further by respecting both companies’ identities and having an environment in which employees can fully exhibit their skills.

Koei, eh? Makes sense. Tecmo is popular here in the West with titles like Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive, while Koei is well-known for its Dynasty Warriors series, which is a huge hit in Japan.

So a merge would give them significant market share in both countries. Given the current state of the company, it’s rather surprising that Tecmo passed up on Square’s offer indeed.

Bethesda’s Vice President of Marketing Pete Hines has confirmed that the PlayStation 3 version of Fallout 3 will not include Trophy support when the game hits stores later this year, but did not rule out the possibility of the feature being added at a later date.

"Not at launch," said Hines, during an interview with PSU.com to be published later today.

"It remains to be seen what we do down the road. It wasn't something we were able to incorporate into the game for launch."

With Fallout 3 set to release on October 28 in the U.S., Bethesda will have a few options in terms of additional PlayStation 3 support, as Sony's PlayStation Home service is set to launch around the same time frame.

Yesterday's session featured some strange exchanging of Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. (TTWO) shares, just one day before the company is set to release earnings.

There was no news released, though Barron's later said that the price decline was due to rumors about Electronic Arts Inc. (ERTS) walking away from merger talks. ERTS had an executive speak at a conference right around noon.

Below is a graph of TTWO's trades between about 11:15 and 12:05, when shares declined sharply, rebounded sharply, and then settled roughly 5% lower than where they opened.

As the stock crossed $24 about eight minutes into the graph, the first pickup in volume can be seen, possibly by stop-limit orders being triggered. The price continued to slide on light volume until shares broke through $23, when volume accelerated to over 50,000 shares per minute.

As the shares dropped below $22, volume topped 150,000 shares per minute, which is impressive, consid... More »
